MELANIE WATSON

Equine Behaviour Consultant & Trainer

Amongst a host of other services Melanie offers particular help for those with ex racehorses using positive reinforcement training, here’s what she says. ‘Many are shut down emotionally and require a very experienced trainer who completely understands how they feel to bring them out of all the negative emotions/behaviours and help them find pleasure as a riding horse.
Because of their insular upbringing many leap in to making strong attachments with other horses and, as such, can then suffer from separation anxiety and introduced to normal field life with buddies.
This whole subject is, in itself, a huge issue. I will support and teach the owners how to make changes in their management back home so that they will be able to make correct decisions and continue to succeed in their future partnership.

JOANNE BURNS-FIRTH

British Showjumping Rider & Coach

Joanne Burns Firth is a British Showjumping (BS) UKCC level three coach, based at JJ Equestrian Services in Goxhill, North Lincolnshire. She has competed in British Showjumping since she was eight years old, on ponies and as a young rider and was a regular competitor at the Royal International Horse Show and the Horse of the Year Show, represented her country on teams. Now, as a senior, she takes pleasure in breaking and producing quality young horses and coaching riders to achieve their goals and dreams.

Coaching is a great passion of Jo's and she loves seeing a horse and rider improve, getting as much pleasure from watching clients win as she does winning herself. Jo is a great believer in taking a holistic approach to showjumping. This means that we work on a rider’s flatwork, as well as their jumping, believing that this is important, as so many things affect a horse and rider’s performance.

She holds regular showjumping clinics at many venues throughout Lincolnshire and Yorkshire, as well as at her own yard.

Joanne feels that one of the most important things for a rider to have is confidence and self-belief. A rider must also be dedicated and hard working; her motto is "believe and achieve".
